The artwork “Hurt” displays the isolation of a tree that cannot connect with other flora. The felt is cut and filled with threads, like the tree is formed by wounds. A thread as a line is the bare minimal to make a connection. Threads are hanging loose at the roots, for a tree that cannot communicate with other flora is in solitary confinement. We learn more and more about the connections trees make with their environment in working together in an ecosystem. The forest is a closer community than the city. We could learn from them, for all we as humans seem to do is make war and dominate others and the world around us. With minimal effort, when a thread touches another thread, communication could be established. And that is the first step to work together and coexist on a similar level.
